Writing a preproposal
To access detailed instructions on writing a preproposal, you can either use the online guide (use the "preproposal sections" box to your right) or you can download a PDF file (use the "for applicants" box, also to your right).
The instructions include review criteria for each section and examples.
Note there are word-count limitations for each section.
Preproposals are submitted and reviewed in midsummer—the submission deadline varies somewhat from year to year. For 2017 awards, the deadline for preproposals is June 23, 2016.
Applicants will be notified in mid-August about whether or not they are invited to submit a full proposal.
Instructions for submitting full proposals are posted in early August, and full proposals are typically due in mid-October, with awards announced in early spring.
Funds are released in late summer. Applicants should be aware of this year-long timeline and plan their project accordingly.
Submitting a preproposal
Follow the step-by-step directions in either the online or PDF guides, and draft your preproposal in a word processor.
Once your preproposal is complete and you have checked that all responses meet the word count limitations, go to www.ciids.org/nesare/REpre/ to submit.
You will be prompted to register in the online submission system. Use your email address as your username and create a password.
Log in, and first fill in the proposal title, your name, organization, contact information, expected project start and end dates, and total amount of funding being requested.
You can then copy and paste each section into the submission template.
If you have questions about how this submission system works, contact Northeast SARE by phone (802-656-0471) or e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
