New York State Coordinator

Anu Rangarajan became coordinator of the NY SARE Professional Development Program in 2004, when she started work as the Director of the Cornell Small Farms Program. She has been at Cornell since 1996, working as Associate Professor for the Department of Fruit and Vegetable Science, and statewide Extension specialist for fresh market vegetable production. As Small Farms Program Director, Anu helps support new networks between groups in the state, expanded research and novel extension programs that target small farms in NY.

Her research interests include reduced tillage systems, integration of compost and manure into vegetable systems, season extension and improved stand establishment, organic production systems, and methods for engaging farmers in research. Anu grew up growing vegetables and flowers for her family.

She has BS and PhD degrees from Michigan State University and an MS degree from the University of Wisconsin, in floriculture and vegetable production. In 2005, she and her husband opened a small pick-your-own strawberry farm in Freeville, NY.
