Improving farm energy sustainability in New York
Helping farmers learn about and adopt innovative, sustainable farm energy solutions was the goal of New York's 2011-2014 state program. Improved energy efficiency and conservation, and increased use of renewable energy are important components of farm sustainability. During the three years agricultural service providers learned about a broad spectrum of energy topics, some tailored to dairy and beef farms and others well suited to vegetable and fruit farms, and became prepared to share their new knowledge with farmers and help them navigate the many energy options available for their farms.
